Result of the trade between the portuguese merchants and the japanese craftsmen, the pieces called namban (southern barbarians in japanese) are rare and were produced between 1580 and 1620. The shape of the coffers is european whereas the lacquered decor is japanese with inlaid mother-of-pearl.
